| Trauma and issues from the past can be reactivated by current events without conscious awareness. Reactions to people and situations in counter productive ways or having "gridlock" where problems are unresolve no matter what is done may be because the problem is actually rooted in dynamics set up due to prior experiences. To regress means to go or move backward. Clients regress to the time and place where the original activating event occurred. This can be achieved through hypnosis, guided imagery, or other states of deep relaxation where memories that are normally unconscious can be accessed. TECHNIQUES can be used to access early childhood memories that may be underlying present-day problems and issues. Bringing these memories into conscious awareness can release or diffuse the energy and emotional blockages that keep clients stuck. Typically, the therapist guides the client through significant events where behavior may have been established so that behavior can be examined from a higher perspective. Re-experiencing key events and reprocessing their impact helps bring closure, enabling forward movement. Regression therapy is accepted in the mainstream as an extremely useful therapeutic tool as a rapid way to bring up material in a single (or just a few sessions), that might otherwise take months of traditional counseling to address, allowing clients to expand their experience and draw upon inner wisdom. |
